Our Mission
The Sanctuary at NE Ohio Greyhound Rescue provides premier, lifetime care to donkeys, horses, cats and hounds in dire straits. Some are animals of advanced age, with medical issues and/or behavioral problems. Some are subjects of former abuse, neglect, and indifference. Some faced certain death or were overlooked by others. While many of our Sanctuary animals are from the United States, we transport and care for animals from other countries as well. We also provide a safe haven for local wildlife and wetland creatures and sustain a forest on our many acres of property.

Why Seniors? Why Special Needs?
We’re often asked why we bother to save old animals or those with costly medical conditions. It’s a legitimate question and one that we often ponder ourselves. When we see animals whose lives were devoted to meeting the needs of people who abused, neglected or abandoned them, the answer is, quite simply: because it’s the HUMANE thing to do. These animals deserve to be loved and cared for. They deserve tenderness and kindness, empathy and compassion. They deserve the best and most consistent medical attention. And when their quality of life is so diminished that it’s time for them to cross the Rainbow Bridge, they deserve a dignified and peaceful death, surrounded by people who ultimately DID care.
Special Animals Help Us To Be Better Humans
Seniors and Special Needs animals hold an especially sweet place in our hearts because we have never stopped learning from them. While we founded the rescue in 2004, we’ve not only spent countless years caring for animals in need, we’ve accumulated a lifetime of invaluable knowledge to better meet those needs. They, in turn, have taught us crucial lessons about life and love which, in turn, have encouraged us to become the best versions of ourselves. They have taught us about patience, kindness and compassion, and served as our role models when it comes to dealing gracefully with aging and pain, disease and death. They have taught us that, with insight and information, diligence and determination, no obstacle is insurmountable. In truth, they have given us more than we could ever hope to give back to them.

Why We Need You!
